Dear Parents,
Your child will be working on a new book report that will require your assistance. The students have picked a fable to read and report on. The students will have to read their book, complete the informational packet on the book and then present the information learned.
The book that your child has selected may be on their instructional level which means they will need your help reading their book. You can help your child read their book in many ways, but please do not just read the book to them. Reading on their instructional level helps the students to increase their reading skills. At the same time you will need to sit and help your student while they are reading.
The packet will be completed at home as well. This is something your student has worked on before so they will NOT need your help on the packet. This packet is to help them gather the information learned through their reading. Your student will have information to record before, during and after they have read. Please help answer questions in “terms” or “unknown words” but allow your student to gather and record the information independently.
Students will present their books on February 29th. This presentation will be in the form of a museum. Your student will have to create a poster board illustrating a scene out of their book, dress up as the main character and retell the lesson learned through the events in the book. I will give the students time in class to create their poster the week of February 25th. Your student will need to practice and create his or her “costumes” at home. I will run a dress rehearsal Thursday, February 28th so all materials will need to be ready by then.
Do not worry; you will be invited to view our museum on the 29th at 1:00!
Please feel free to e-mail any questions you may have in regards to this project. The book reading will be counted for your students reading log. Please make sure you sign how many minutes they read.

Mystery readers
If you would like to come and read to the class please let me know. I have every Friday or Wednesday open at 9:00-9:30.
Also, we have read a great giving story and I would love to take this book and run with it. The story is about an Appalachian Christmas and the children who were not going to receive Christmas. I know we are donating can goods for Christmas but I would also love to give back with our own "Silver packages", the name of the book, somehow. I was thinking of maybe the children's hospital, a family with children in need, or any other good ideas. Please send me e-mails with your ideas. We would need to make a decision soon I know.
Thank you for your support and great ideas!!!!
